Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park is a park which is situated on the Ungasan hill about 146 meters above the sea level at Ungasan village, South Kuta district belong to Badung regency, Bali. The statue and its pedestal will be surrounded by more than 240 hectares cultural park which was once an abandoned and unproductive limestone quarry. The colossal limestone pillars and monumental around the park make it a very exotic space. The main attraction here is the huge statue of Wisnu riding Garuda and some of entertainment inside the park. Garuda itself is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu.

This spot can be reached about 15 minute from the international airport of Ngurah Rai. Some of the main tourist area are covered from here for examples; Nusa Dua area, Kuta, Jimbaran and Kedonganan, Uluwatu Temple, Dreamland and Padang-padang Beach and Benoa cape. There is also holy spring as one of the most visited places. In the midst of a high limestone mountains, suddenly springs. According to local belief, the springs has power to cure some diseases and if you drink for it, maybe all of your desires would come true someday.

The park is designed as an area that will feature works of art and culture as well as technology and international business. The park will be completed by building a great statue for about 150 meter in height and 70 meters in width. It is supposed to be higher than Liberty statue. The project is leaded by the famous sculptor of Bali, named I Nyoman Nuarta. It was begun in 1997 and has not finished yet until now. The statue is made from the mixture of more than 4000 tons of copper and brass. When it is already finished, this will be the largest sculpture in the world. The statues of Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a symbol of environmental rescue mission and the world, the power of the keepers of the universe. The god Wisnu is the owner of Amerta in the form of water as the source of fertility, giving wealth and life to the universe. This site can be seen from the area with 20 miles distance. It can be observed from Nusa Dua, Kuta, Jimbaran, Tanah Lot until Denpasar area.

GWK cultural park is suitable for any kinds of events. The facilities are ideal for all types of events, be it private or public, small or big, local or international events. Some of the great events in Bali are done here. The Indraloka Garden is good place to have wedding party and dinner party with a beautiful view.

GWK Amphitheater and Lotus Pond

There is a big Amphitheater with 8000 seat available. Enclosed by enormous limestone pillars with the Garuda figure as a backdrop. The dramatic Lotus Pond area has capacity at 7500, like the ceremonial boulevard of Balinese village. It is intended for outdoor venue for  special performances with a well-designed acoustic. Every afternoon you can watch the famous Kecak dance for free. Lotus Pond is the biggest outdoo area in GWK. This place used for music concert, international conferences, big party or many more international activities. It is very unique with limestone pillars aside it and used Garuda Wisnu Kencana as the backdrop. The name of Lotus taken from the mythology of Hindu in which Lotus is considered as symbol of prosperity and fertility. Additional, Lord of Wisnu also take Lotus on his hand and others Gods of Hindus.

The Street Theater is suitable for processions, fashion show, and other mobile performances. Street Theater is the starting and ending point of your visit to Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. It’s here that you can find many souvenirs shops and restaurants in one place and where all the festivities do.

The Exhibition Gallery

There is also, the Exhibition Gallery provides 200 square of covered area as well as ten square meter internal open courtyard. It also offers you some fun free services such as nail painting, hair braiding, temporary tattoo, caricature drawing, and batik painting. The name of the exhibition hall is Balairung Dewi Sri as the Goddess of fertility and wealthy.
